RE: We just bought a fifth wheel! Several questions ...
Thanks!
We won't have access to shore power. The house will be off grid and run on solar.
I'm thinking one or two batteries in the RV to charge with Renogy. I can monitor and add panels if needed.
We are thinking about getting a Jackery with solar panel separately to place in the living area to charge our phones and laptop.
Heating will be catalytic so no RV battery needed. Or perhaps a diesel heater once I can get around to taking on that project.
It seems like you're going in a 100 different directions at once. I'd back off a second and look for a single solution to power both the rv and house off the same system.

RE: Sleep apnea
Using a CPAP sucks but it's worth it. 2 weeks is nothing. It took me several years and a couple mask changes to get it figured out.
My recommendation would be to start using it during your afternoon naps. Figure it out in 1 hour long trials day by day.

RE: Where to go for RV fishing trip in AZ or New Mex in November
Look at the San Juan at Navajo Dam, NM
Awesome fishing!!! Just be aware there are rangers always watching for fisherman “shuffling”. It’s illegal and they will fine you , kick you off the river and take pleasure doing it. I’ve watched it more than once. Bad weather beats good there since there are fewer fisherman out in the rain and snow.
What is " shuffling " ?
I had to ggl "shuffling" - new term for this lifetime fisher.
The act of "shuffling" is using your feet to kick up aquatic insects to trigger fish to feed, perhaps in a trout stream. I suppose it could be done on a large scale w a jet boat, too.

Patagonia Lake State Pk in AZ, lots of dirt bags from Tuscon use this as party central. If you go try to get a spot in the area away from the boat launch. In fact, it might be better to camp elsewhere.

RE: an article about RV'ing
What do you think about my new green RV?
The engine is small (only 4 horsepower), but it gets me to where I'm going...
I'll be installing solar next week.
I am having one problem though....My black waste tank sensors aren't working properly. Does anyone know where I can find some ice to put in the tank so that I can drive around and clean those sensors??
:)
How far can you go btwn pastures? And how long does it take to recharge?

RE: Robot Tolls - At My Limit!
I looked into getting a transponder for a recent trip to WV. It was not free and would have cost me more to get it than just paying for the tolls.
It's still free as of this morning. I don't consider a deposit as a cost, although I can't earn interest on the $25 deposit.

RE: Robot Tolls - At My Limit!
For a commuter who purposely gets the ezpass, sure.
But for the random guy passing thru, they've taken away the manual pay option on many toll roads. No reason they couldn't put a credit card machine on a lane or two, so you didn't get a surprise later.
Pretty funny comment from the guy that told me to get w technology and get a sat phone so I could get on rec.gov from the middle of nowhere!!!
Nothing to do with technology. It's a faulty system process with no means of addressing mistakes and a distinctly non technology driven process even if it's a legitimate toll. Plenty of cell coverage around most toll booths, so the credit card machines would have no problem running charges.
Most cities have made the switch for downtown parking. They let you pay at a machine rather than logging a bill into the system and it's up to you to make an account, find the fee, etc....
You're just out and out making things up. There is a means of addressing issues and having had some and having them all resolved to my satisfaction I disagree.
Yeah you can pay for the parking w your ezpass too, so what does parking have to do w tolls? The idea that the 2 systems in place to collect the tolls aren't satisfactory to you is just stubbornness and nothing more. It costs nothing to have an account and a transponder, but go ahead and insist on letting them capture the info off your vehicle and whatever errors occur downstream will be the result.

RE: Robot Tolls - At My Limit!
Exactly. I can’t believe they are allowed to do this.
I suppose not enough people go on long, out of state road trips to make it a concern people get vocal about. Most people stay home.
Manned toll booths are a living hell, ezpass changed that, and improved millions of peoples commute.
If people want to transit NYC, for instance, once in lifetime in an RV, you're going to have to deal with it or choose another route.

RE: Ordering a Chev 3500 (Oct 2023)
Yeah, I get that.
By the time I had finally convinced myself to get a new truck it was kinda like "better get it NOW before the idea/feeling passes" LOL!!
IMHO: ordering is not exactly compatible with "impulse buying" even if it took years to become "impulsive"... ;)

RE: Robot Tolls - At My Limit!
I just got one from September for a truck I traded into a dealership in July and I was told that I am liable for it. How's that for a scam?
That’s not possible unless you left the license plates on it?
I've never taken the plates when trading at a dealership, but rethinking it. And this was no small dealership.
You're not liable, it wasn't your truck at the time. I think you could fight and win by providing proof of sale.

RE: Ordering a Chev 3500 (Oct 2023)
When I bought my 1st 'camper hauling truck' back in 2001 the 'new' market pricing made me dizzy and the 'used' market was so all over the map it was almost beyond confusing.
Here patience paid off and after a period of months I finally found a used truck worth purchasing.
Almost the same could be said ~20yrs later when I finally decided to replace that truck with something newer. However THIS time while the new prices were astronomical much of the used market was crazy high as well and at the time I could afford a new truck.
Then comes the problem of 'buy off the lot' (*actually finding* what you want already built and ready for sale) or resorting to ordering from the factory.
As luck would have it within 300 miles of my location a whole whooping ONE truck met my needs/wants/desires and I bought it.
My heart goes out to those that have to resort to ordering from the factory and waiting.
- Mark0.
It's actually kinda fun ordering, and I've already waited 3 years anyway.

RE: Robot Tolls - At My Limit!
Crossing the Peace Bridge into Canada at Buffalo with the NY EZpass,I was "up" charged from a class 4 to a class 5 combination of truck & trailer, adding $14.00 to the bridge charge. Filed an adjustment claim & they refunded the difference.
Interesting point - I was traveling with friends & their single axle trailer was also "up" charged a class. This happened to both of us on two separate crossings this year, one in July & one in September.
One might suspect that EZpass is trying to overcharge those that don't check their billing or don't bother to correct problems...
I used to use separate senders for truck and truck and single axle trailer and then got another one for the dual axle.
EZ Pass is a HUGE +++++, are there issues yes, but it was life changing on the commute and it overcomes not having sufficient cash or correct change.
I had couple major fights w them over the years, but I always ended up paying the correct amount.

RE: Ordering a Chev 3500 (Oct 2023)
I prefer ordering vehicles and having them exactly the way I want them and then hang on to them as long as possible. I realize there is a significant cost to doing that although my current DD was purchased used since Toyota took reg cab short wheel base trucks out of production in 2013, it was the only way to get one in 2015.
